Tao Of Backup Wailing Wall Story
SQL injection got us
Thanks to the RBN we lost a ton of data to a SQL injection. It hit us right at a critical time when our backup was recycling. So after we discovered the injection we also discovered our backups were too narrow.
Our Daily Backup had recycled and backed up the injected data.
Our Weekly backup had recycled and backed up injected data.
There was no redundant or mirror backup!
So now we error on the side of caution:
Redundant, Daily, Weekly, Monthly
1 copy on the server
1 copy on a remote machine
1 copy off site via removable media
